In 2021, Waggoner designed an ambitious plan that called for expanding business in existing core markets while continuing to build our array of complementary services and geographic markets. Our primary goals were to accelerate growth, unlock significant opportunities for staff and expand service offerings to clients by choosing the right partner to strengthen our investment resources and provide mergers and acquisitions (M&A) expertise. We carefully evaluated potential partners’ alignment with our culture and values, understanding of our industry, ability to be a strategic growth platform and access to capital and resources.

In February 2022, Waggoner partnered with Trilon Group (Trilon). Backed by Alpine Investors, Trilon was formed with a vision to build the next Top 20 design firm in North America by bringing together some of the nation’s best infrastructure consulting firms. Strategic partnership with Trilon provides Waggoner with accelerated growth potential, shared common culture and values, and the ability to provide services within a family of companies while retaining our unique identity. As the very first member of the Trilon family of firms, Waggoner has led the strategy for Trilon’s Water and Municipal platform as Trilon has grown from one partner to over ten (see sidebar for current firm and employee totals).

Waggoner has benefitted immensely from Trilon’s investments in talent and technology. From the start, Trilon’s commitment to being a “People First” group has reinforced Waggoner’s commitment to being our employees’ company of choice. Trilon’s current buying power offers expanded benefits and human resources to our valued personnel. Investments in technology and standardized data practices across companies have enhanced data security and facilitated intercompany collaboration. By joining forces with Trilon, Waggoner was able to acquire Sigma Consulting Group (November 2022) and Manchac Consulting Group and Atakapa Services (September 2023), expanding offices by five locations and greatly extending our reach in the Southeast US. Waggoner has seen significant bolstering of its highly qualified employee base through increased organic staff growth and by welcoming all 125-plus employees from our acquired companies. The accelerated growth of the Trilon family of firms has provided an influx of trusted partners and collaborators that augment Waggoner’s resources and services, ultimately benefiting our clients.
