Mitch Road Over Peters Creek Bridge Replacement

Surveying
Washington Parish, Louisiana

Waggoner was contracted by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD) to perform comprehensive survey and design services for the replacement of an existing timber bridge with a new slab span bridge in Washington Parish. The scope of work included topographic and property surveys, right-of-way mapping, and the preparation of preliminary and final plans.

As part of the topographic survey, a control survey was conducted to establish the framework for precise measurements. This included the use of Static GPS OPUS to establish two control points and an RTK control traverse for 23 intersection locations. Digital leveling methods were employed to ensure accuracy, and a GPS control sketch was prepared to document the survey framework.

The topographic survey captured detailed features of the existing roadway, bridge, driveways, utilities, and drainage systems. QL-C utility locates were completed to identify above-ground visible features and included markings from LA One Call tickets. Conventional total station methods were used to collect detailed topographic data, adhering to LADOTD Location and Survey code list and attribute requirements. Deliverables for this phase included MicroStation and InRoads Survey files in both 2D and 3D formats, as well as DTM, FWD, and ALG files.

Property Survey & Right-of-Way Mapping

The project also required a property survey and right-of-way mapping. Property corners were located to determine existing right-of-way and property boundaries. Right-of-way maps were prepared in compliance with LADOTD Location and Survey standards. This included legal descriptions of the required right-of-way, ensuring the maps met all necessary regulatory requirements.
