Rankin County Comprehensive Watershed Program

Watershed/Coastal, Strategic Services
Rankin County, Mississippi

Waggoner Engineering is supporting the Rankin County Board of Supervisors in developing and implementing a $300 million comprehensive watershed management program to address stormwater, drainage, and flood risks in one of Mississippi’s most populated and fastest-developing counties. Properly addressing challenges associated with watershed and land use management are at the core of the County’s program as Rankin County continues to balance rapid economic growth with environmental and community resilience.

In addition to planning and technical support, the Waggoner team is achieving success in helping the County secure state funding and financial and program support from multiple federal resource agencies, including the US Army Corps of Engineers and the Natural Resources Conservation Service.

About the Program

Waggoner worked with the County to develop a Comprehensive Watershed-Based Stormwater Management Program. The Program identifies the most innovative and efficient best practices needed to assess, quantify, and identify short and long term priorities. The Program also includes an evaluation of existing ordinances and policies, a floodplain encroachment analysis, and the development of funding and implementation strategies.
