JACKSON, Miss. – Matthew T. Butler, President and CEO of Waggoner, spoke at the April 10 luncheon of the Mississippi Association of Supervisors Minority Caucus (MAS-MC) 2024 Annual Educational Conference held in Hattiesburg, Mississippi at the historic Eureka School.

His topic was “Strategies for Local Governments to Build Sustainable Communities.” Butler presented about how communities should focus on improving their infrastructure while investing in their existing assets.

MAS-MC represents and provides a forum for minority supervisors across the state, and conference attendees were Board of Supervisors (BOS) members and community leaders. A BOS is a governmental body that oversees the operation of county government in Mississippi.

“Strategic plans should align with the overall vision and goals of each County,” Butler explained. “Supervisors are instrumental in positioning projects for external funding opportunities that take some financial burden from local resources, such as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.”

Eric Jefferson, PE, AICP, PTP, Discipline Manager for Planning and Development, and Darion Warren, CFM, Area Manager for Central Mississippi, were also present at the Conference. Earlier this year, Jefferson and Warren were panelists for “The Next Four Years: Planning for Impactful Outcomes” at the MAS-MC Winter 2024 Meeting.

“I was honored to be among esteemed minority Supervisors and leaders who serve their citizens across Mississippi,” reflected Butler. “By sharing our firm’s knowledge with organizations like MAS-MC, we are acting upon Waggoner’s mission of improving the quality of lives of our clients and communities.”

A senior executive in the architecture/engineering/construction (AEC) industry with over 30 years of experience, Butler’s expertise lies in transforming companies into recognized leaders in the AEC industry. He joined Waggoner in January 2023.
